The Prambanan temple ruins are a group of many temples spread over five square kilometers. The outside wall of the Siva temple is decorated with a relief based on the Ramayana, the ancient Indian epic, showcasing the magnificent story in a breathtakingly beautiful engraving. The Yogyakarta royal palace is the home of the present king, Sultan Hamengkubuwono X, and his family. At the museum owned by the family which is open to the public, you will see gifts to the king from many countries of the world as well as treasures and the clothes, tableware and furniture used by successive kings. On Malioboro Street, ride in a becak, in the cool evening breeze and watch the Ramayana ballet.
On the second day, visit Borobudur in the early morning, the highlight of the tour. Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in the world, was buried under volcanic ash and jungle for about 1000 years before finally being discovered in 1814 during the British occupation. The origin of the name is unknown as is its purpose and how it died out. The temple, shrouded in mystery, is said to show its most mystical look in the early morning just before dawn. The religious reliefs of the Buddha, saints and others carved on the corridors are said to show more than 10,000 people. There are such scenes as the birth of Buddha; when he decided to renounce the world; and when he became spiritually enlightened under a bo tree. A visit to Borobudur opens the door to a world of fantasy and romanticism. This will be followed by breakfast at Amanjiwo, an elegant experience in Yogyakarta.
