Cultural Tourism Celebration in Bali

Bali has thousand names because of its beauties "Island of the Gods" and "Tropical Eden" and many more. The Balinese have been being developed an intense approval of their cultural identity.  Hence, when the tourism developed by the year 1965, they insisted that it followed cultural guiding principle: if tourism was to be received, it should to be a cultural tourism. Around 1978 to 1988, the governor of Bali, Ida Bagus Mantra, and an Indian educated Balinese. It led, on the one side, to the creation of  enclave resorts such as Nusa Dua to limit the direct impact of tourism, and on the other, to a long haul cultural policy aimed at nurturing and preserving the traditional agrarian culture while adapting it to the demands of modernity, and in particular of "cultural tourism".

Bali Arts Festival is used as the media for excavation, conservation, and development of Balinese art activity is a process of sustainable development and build up the potential of local culture, chime with domestic and foreign cultures to create a greatness of the world civilization.

The Bali Arts Festival is one month of daily performances for some kinds of programs such as handicraft exhibitions and other related cultural and commercial activities during which literally the whole of Bali comes to the city to present its offerings of dance, music and beauty. On display are trances from remote mountain slopes, forgotten or recently revived village dances, food and offering contests, classical palace dances, stars of Balinese stage, odd musical performances as well as contemporary choreography and dance companies from other islands and from abroad. Some of the neighbors countries are also take part in Bali art festival and show their own culture with the spirit of brotherhood. Those countries are United States, Australia, India, Japan, China, England, and many others countries.

The festival process start from the village level, local music groups, dances and other cultural events were inventoried, and then supported by a series of contests at the district and regency level. Cultural groups are selected and organized at the regency level and display in front of a large audience the uniqueness of their village of birth and resting place of their ancestors. The festival is so unique opportunity to see local village culture both "live" and at first hand. Almost all over the years, the whole range of classical Balinese stories of Ramayana, Mahabharata, Sutasoma, Panji have been transform into "colossal" Sendratari Ballets.

 

 

 

 

 

In one month, each day will be filled by the program which divided into two terms: the midday shows, they usually perform for musical performances, traditional games, special craft contests (such as offerings, Balinese cooking), and other events, and the evening performances, starting at 8 p.m. and lasting into the night, with the cream of Balinese dance.  The Arts Center is open all day until midnight, with a large array of exhibitions, foods stalls, and simply the spectacle of a popular event whose main participants are the gentle people of Bali. 

 

All of these perform usually done in the complex of Taman Budaya or Arts Center. It is a huge cultural complex built in the heart of Denpasar in the best fashion of traditional Balinese architecture.  The design is a small theaters, smaller "bale" performance halls and capture buildings. The biggest hall of the amphitheater has capacity around up to 6.000 spectators, in a temple-like stage designed for the performing of "colossal ballets". 

The theme of Bali Arts Festival XXXIII Year 2011 is the “Desa Kala Patra”, it is the way how to create harmonious relationship in a multicultural life. It means, the Bali Arts Festival this year would like to invite the society and for those who have more awareness of the resources and uniqueness of Balinese culture as a way of life in society. The 33rd of Bali Arts Festival will be held at Taman Budaya Art Center in Denpasar from June 11 until July 09, 2011.
